NBA All-Star Voting 2019 starts on Christmas Day

We all count down the last few days until Christmas Day, 8…, 7…, 6…, not only because of the Christmas Dinner and the gifts, but also to finally start voting for the 2019 All-Stars! The NBA today released the specific voting dates and the procedures, which are summarized in this article.

Background and all voting results for prior years are available on justallstar.org.

The NBA All-Star voting for the five All-Star starters will begin on Christmas Day (Tuesday, December 25) at 11am EST and will conclude on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, January 21).

There will be five 2-for-1 days during the NBA All-Star voting period, meaning that each vote counts twice! The 2-for-1 days are on

  • Thursday, January 3, 2019,
  • Friday, January 4, 2019,
  • Thursday, January 10, 2019,
  • Friday, January 11, 2019, and
  • Monday, January 21, 2019 (last day of the NBA All-Star voting period).

There will be ballot updates on January 3, January 10 (both 2-for-1 days), and finally on January 17. One week later, on Thursday 31, 2019, the All-Star reserves selected by the NBA head coach’s will be announced, again on TNT.

In about five weeks from now, we will know whether one of the hopeful NBA rookies makes it to the NBA All-Star roster, the first time since Blake Griffin was selected as a rookie to become an All-Star in 2011.

How to vote for your All-Star starting five

During the voting period, basketball fans (and everybody else) can submit one full ballot per day, i.e., per 24 hours. Fans can select their starters by choosing up to two guards and three frontcourt players per conference (East and West Conference). Votes can be submitted as follows:

  • Go to www.nba.com/vote and complete a full ballot,
  • Download the NBA iOS or Android app to vote for your starting fives,
  • Vote on Google; Google became the NBA All-Star Voting partner based on a long-term agreement, or
  • Use your Google Assistant.

Again, you can vote for your All-Star starting players once every 24 hours.

Selection procedure for the full NBA All-Star rosters

The format has not changed compared to last years: basketball fans, NBA players and the media will jointly select the NBA All-Star Game starters. While the fans will account for 50% of the votes, NBA players and the media will each account for 25%.

Two captains, representing the players with the most fan votes from the Western and Eastern Conference, will then select the NBA All-Star rosters from the players selected by fans, NBA players, and media. The conference affiliation is, as last year, not relevant for the composition of the teams.
