1989 NBA ALL STAR SLAM DUNK CONTEST HOUSTON

  • Winner: Kenny Walker (NY)
  • In this edition appeared the tenths in the scores and the semifinal was decreased to 2 dunks per player.
  • There was an unequal final between Clyde Drexler (who missed his two dunks and didn’t want to do the third) and Kenny Walker, who won with a great final.

  • Winner: Michael Jordan (CHI)
  • Another big duel between Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins.
  • A lot of people thought that Dominique should have won, but it was Michael Jordan who won (probably) the best slam dunk contest ever.

  • Winner: Michael Jordan (CHI)
  • Seattle saw the enshrining of Michael Jordan.
  • Michael flew from the free shot line till the basket, making this way one of the best dunks in history.
  • In this edition, final consisted of 3 dunks again, while the first round was reduced to 2.

1986 NBA ALL STAR SLAM DUNK CONTEST DALLAS

  • Winner: Spud Webb (ATL)
  • The big surprise happened. In his native city, the little Spud Webb (5-6 feet, 1.70 m) won with a huge performance.
  • He made a perfect final with two 50, defeating Dominique Wilkins.
  • In this edition, the final was lowered from 3 to 2 dunks for each player.
  • The big absent was Michael Jordan, who was injured, and Gerald Wilkins replaced Orlando Woolridge (injured too).

  • Winner: Dominique Wilkins (ATL)
  • This edition was the first meeting of Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins, with the better end for Wilkins.
  • The two finalists of the past year (Julius Erving and Larry Nance) qualified directly to the semifinal.

  • Winner: Larry Nance (PHO)
  • In the first edition was a high level with a great specialists. Every player had to make three dunks in each of the three rounds.
  • Julius Erving was the first player to get a 50 (perfect dunk), but the winner was Larry Nance.
  • It was the only contest with 9 players.
